In the beginning Lumawig, the Great Spirit, came down from the sky and created people out of many reeds that he himself cut up into pairs. He also taught the people and brought to them all the things which they needed. Lumawig told the the people of Bontoc to get clay and make pots. However, the Bontoc people failed to make well-shaped jars as they did not understand the molding. So Lumawig told them that they would always have to buy their jars, and he moved potterymaking to Samoki. Then the Great Spirit saw that their jars were well shaped and beautiful and he told them that they should always make many jars to sell.
